Bridges to Community's mission is to build a more just and sustainable world through service learning and community development by engaging volunteers to work in developing countries—building community and changing lives. They do so by working closely with community leaders in Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic in the areas of housing, education, health, and economic development. Most of Bridges' programs and projects are driven by volunteer participation that incorporates service learning into the volunteers' on-the-ground experience.

In 2023, your donations reached over 3,300 lives, enabling us to achieve significant milestones:

  • Continued financial support for 28 scholarship students in Nicaragua.
  • Construction of 13 dignified homes.
  • Health screening for diabetes and hypertension for over 600 community members.
  • Construction of 24 hygienic latrines.
  • Expansion of our team in the Dominican Republic with the hiring of 6 new employees.
  • The successful hosting of almost 200 volunteers.

Your impact has been tangible and transformative. However, there is still much more to be done, and we invite you to be an integral part of our journey in 2024. With your continued support, we aspire to:

  • Build 20 homes
  • Install sanitary wash stations for improved community hygiene.
  • Undertake house repairs to ensure safe and comfortable living conditions.
  • Establish a youth ecological brigade to further empower our partner communities beyond housing.

Yes, one home makes a difference. With sturdy cinderblocks and a roof attached to the foundation, instead of a wobbling structure cobbled together from scrap lumber and plastic sheeting, the home we build will remain standing after a hurricane. With tile or cement floors instead of just damp dirt beneath their feet, children and parents won't get sick so often. With doors and windows that lock, family members can go to work and school without worrying about theft. For the family who gets a new home, it changes everything.

Join us on a volunteer trip or support us with your generous donation and help us change the lives of thousands.
